Mercy and Prayer

By Mary Williams

One day this past winter, I had gone to Carson's to enjoy a sale day. Billy phoned me to tell me that there had been an avalanche in Colorado where cars were swept off a highway and an unknown number of people were trapped.

As I continued to browse, looking for a good sale, I prayed, "God, Your mercy. God, Your mercy." Repeating this under my breath as I shopped, I heard back, "Your mercy, Mary, your mercy."

I continued to pray, "Your mercy, Father, Your mercy."

From within came, "Your mercy, Mary, your mercy."

I was puzzled. This didn't make sense. They needed God's mercy to be found safely by the rescuers. Why did they need my mercy?

Then the understanding came. God wanted those people to be rescued. I didn't have to convince Him that He needed to do this. He needed me to show mercy by taking my time to ask Him to intervene. He needed me to give Him license to move on their behalf.

If He would give His Son in death how much more will He demonstrate His mercy now that Christ is alive again from the dead. Everything the world needs has already been provided. But necessary for these things to happen is for us, the Body of Christ, to show mercy by taking time from our planned desires and pray; to stop and through prayer, license the heavenly Father (as Jesus taught to pray, "…Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.") that He may do the things He has already provided for in His Son.

"For as many as are the promises of God, they all find their Yes [answer] in Him [Christ]. For this reason we also utter the Amen (so be it) to God through Him [in His Person and by His agency] to the glory of God."   2 Corinthians 1:20 (AMP)

God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son. We have to love the world and give ourselves-give our mercy.

All in the avalanche were found safely.
