By Mary WilliamsIn 1976 Dr. Ken Stewart was the Dean of Students for RHEMA Bible Training Center, Tulsa, Oklahoma. He shared with Billy and I, that when children are born that they are spiritually alive unto God. If a baby died before or during birth, they would immediately enter heaven. In Romans 7:9 Paul said, "For I was alive without the law once, but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died." Babies are not dead spirits but living spirits. When children learn the difference between good and evil, and choose the evil, they will die spiritually. Parents need to recognize the time of their child's spiritual death in order to lead them back to the Lord through prayer. Believers' children should not stay in spiritual death for any length of time. In 1986 when Rachel, the youngest of our four children, was between three and four years old, she became very upset and angry because I would not let her have a toy that her ten year old brother was playing with. She stomped into the bedroom crying. After some time had passed and she should have been settled down, I could hear her still crying. Feeling that I should check on her, I went to the bedroom where she was crying with deep sobs.
Sitting down on the bed across from her I asked, "Rachel, what's wrong?"
I led her through a short prayer asking Jesus to return. When "amen" was said she climbed down from the bed and went off to play leaving me to ponder what had just happened. I had witnessed the death and rebirth of Rachel's spirit in a matter of minutes. She had been spiritually alive, but when she knowingly rebelled in anger, her spirit died. Even though she was not even four years old, she knew when life, God's life, left her…and when it returned. |
